Fifty Shades of Grey By: E.L. James

I've been wanting to do a review on this book for quite a while now and haven't really had the courage to do so knowing how people either love or hate this book. To be honest with you, I rather enjoyed the entire trilogy. Now I'm not saying that E.L. James is the best writer out there but she can definitely make up a good story. When I first heard about this book I was completely put off by it. When my friends and I decided that we all wanted to order it and give it a shot, I wasn't expecting much out of it.

As soon as I began reading Fifty Shades, however, I was enthralled. Not because of the amount of sexual activity because to be honest with you, there really isn't that much. I've heard this book referenced as "Mommy Porn" but reading it, I just didn't get it. I wouldn't even consider this book a BDSM book. It's kind of like, he's into it and she's not so their difficulty is finding a happy medium. Yes, this book is very erotic but to me, it's for different reasons. The sex scenes are very interesting and hot, but to me, the scenes where Christian Grey looks at her like he wants to devour her and the way they talk to and treat each other is more appealing to me. I love their playfulness and their chemistry. It was definitely a fun read. Most of you reading this already have a pretty good idea on what this book is about but just in case you don't, here is a quick synopsis:

Basically, college student Anastasia Steele goes to interview 27 year old multi-billionaire, Christian Grey, in her sick roommate's stead. Well, as soon as she makes it into his office, she trips. He tends to remind her of that a few times in the trilogy. After this meeting, Ana cannot get Christian out of her mind. He shows up at her work because he was just "in town" and eventually, he manages to get her out on a date. Not too long after, she finds out that he is interested in a relationship where he is her dominant and she is his submissive. Now, not only is this a frightening/new concept for Anastasia but she isn't very experienced as far as a sexual relationship goes. So this is all new to her. Christian gives Ana a contract to look over, a set of rules to make sure she follows, and some time to negotiate what she can and cannot do. However, during the time, Ana starts to develop feelings for Mr. Grey and she's on an emotional roller-coaster because she isn't quite sure if he feels the same way.

I read the book in one sitting. I honestly couldn't put it down. Not because of the "smut" but because I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. Again, it's not the best written book but it was enjoyable for me to read. To me, this book isn't something I would suggest if you want a serious well written book that will kind of make you concentrate and think. If you want that, I'd suggest you pick up Pride and Prejudice. But this book is definitely a fun read.

Laters, baby.

Some Girls Bite By: Chloe Neill

This was honestly a book I wasn't sure I would enjoy. A friend recommended it to me and I bought it while still being a bit leerie of it. One thing you will learn about me, if you haven't figured it out already is, I am all about the covers and this book, honestly, the cover wasn't appealing to me at first. It starts to grow on you though.

So during this book, Merit (she goes by her last name) is attacked on her college campus. A vampire rips her throat out and she almost dies there in the quad until a stranger shows up and saves her life...by turning her into the very thing that almost killed her. She wakes up three days later in a limo outside of her house groggy and feeling very much alive. At first, Merit isn't sure what happened to her but it doesn't take her long to figure out she was turned against her will. The last thing she wants is to be a vampire and she'll be damned if she has to swear her oath to a specific house.

Eventually, after much consideration, Merit makes her decision and becomes a katana-wielding badass. I mean, come on...who wouldn't want to fight bad guys with a katana?! I would accept that position any day...well, night in her situation. But there is a catch, she has to swear her allegiance to her sexy master, Ethan. And her main purpose in their mansion is to use that katana to protect everyone...but mainly Ethan.

Once I began reading this I really couldn't put it down. I was honestly absorbed in this book. I even had dreams I had a katana and was fighting bad guys! This book is very eventful and leaves you in suspense for the entire book. Not to mention the chemistry/frustration between Merit and Ethan. This is definitely a must read!!

Second Grave on the Left By: Darynda Jones

“I’m Charlotte Davidson: private investigator, police consultant, all -around badass. Or I could’ve been a badass, had I stuck with those lessons in mixed martial arts. I was only in that class to learn how to kill people with paper.”

In this sequel to First Grave on the Right, Charley Davidson once again leaves you on the edge of your seat...while doubled over with laughter! Darynda did a wonderful job with this book as well. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down.

"I was an atheist until I learned that I was God. -Bumper Sticker"

One thing I love about this series is the friendship between Charley and Cookie. Anyone who has a great friendship with someone can most likely find some way to relate to those two! In the beginning of Second Grave on the Left, Charley is awakened by her best friend/neighbor, Cookie throwing clothing at her and dragging her out of bed at the crack of dawn to track down a missing woman.

"I found myself struggling to keep up with her in my bunny slippers. With a sigh, I realized I was getting way too much exercise. I'd just have to counteract it later with cake. -Charley Davidson”

Add Reyes Farrow, AKA "The Big Bad", AKA "The Son of Satan" into the mix and you have one sleep deprived grim reaper. With Reyes visiting her at night in her dreams and dropping this huge bomb on her, she not only has to track down this missing woman, but also the man of her dreams...literally. As I've said, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat in suspense, but also keeps you laughing so hard you may need a tissue or two. You will never expect what happens in this book, making it even more enjoyable.  Will Charley be able to keep her family and friends safe? Will Reyes show up in time to protect her like he always does? I guess you'll just have to read it and find out!

First Grave on the Right By: Darynda Jones

Oh...My...Goodness. When it comes to describing the incredible story line and characters of First Grave on the Right By: Darynda Jones, those are the only words that come to mind. Not once have I ever laughed out loud while reading the first two pages of a book, until now.

“Never knock on death's door. Ring the doorbell then run. He totally hates that.
- T-shirt”

Private Investigator, Charley Davidson, sees dead people. And not just that but it is her job, as the grim reaper, to get them to pass on through her. To the human's eye, she looks just like any regular girl...well maybe a little mental what with talking to herself and all, but to someone who is dead, she is lit up like a lighthouse. She attracts dead people and she has ever since she helped her mother pass through her as a newborn. And not to mention "The Big Bad". Whew! Just reading some of their scenes will leave you panting! The chemistry those two have together is amazing and extremely HOT!

“Genius has its limitations.
Insanity...not so much. -Bumper Sticker"

I've recommended this book to numerous people and I will continue to suggest it to anyone who asks about a book they should read. Darynda Jones is a literary "Jenius". If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, pant, and stay on the edge of your seat the entire time, this is definitely the book you should pick up!

"Some girls wear prada. Some girls wear Glock 17 short recoil spring-loaded semiautomatic pistols with a loaded chamber indicator and a nonslip grip. -T-shirt."
